What is FOREX?

The foreign exchange market (FOREX, FX, or currency market) is a form of exchange for the global decentralized trading of international currencies. Financial centers around the world function as anchors of trading between a wide range of different types of buyers and sellers around the clock, with the exception of weekends.
The foreign exchange market determines the relative values of different currencies.

The foreign exchange market is unique because of the following characteristics:

• its huge trading volume representing the largest asset class in the world leading to high liquidity
• its geographical dispersion
• its continuous operation: 24 hours a day except weekends, i.e., trading from 20:15 GMT on Sunday until 22:00 GMT Friday
• the variety of factors that affect exchange rates
• the low margins of relative profit compared with other markets of fixed income and
• the use of leverage to enhance profit and loss margins and with respect to account size

As such, it has been referred to as the market closest to the ideal of perfect competition, notwithstanding currency intervention by central banks. According to the Bank for International Settlements, as of April 2010, average daily turnover in global foreign exchange markets is estimated at $3.98 trillion, a growth of approximately 20% over the $3.21 trillion daily volume as of April 2007. Some firms specializing on foreign exchange market had put the average daily turnover in excess of $4 trillion.

Who is the broker?

Firms that provide currency traders with access to a trading platform that allows them to buy and sell foreign currencies. A currency trading broker, also known as a retail forex broker, or forex broker, handles a very small portion of the volume of the overall foreign exchange market.
Currency traders use these brokers to access the 24-hour currency market.

Who is the signal provider?

A forex signal or alert is a communication to you indicating when it’s time to buy a particular currency pair and at what price. Best generated by professional forex signal providers, trained individuals or companies who devote their time aiding in buy/sell decisions, forex traders rely on the advice of these so-called experts when it comes to investing in the forex market.

Forex signal providers make investing in the forex market as easy as possible. Depending on the system you choose, forex signals can be either manual or automated and provide entry/exit points for major or pre-selected currency pairs. With manual, the forex signal simply generates a buy alert from the signal provider. With automated, the forex signal both alerts you when it’s time to buy and makes the purchase for you by working together with your bank or broker.

Regardless of how frequently you trade forex and in what quantities, the role of the signal provider cannot be underestimated. Many signal providers lean on forex software systems for advice before generating forex alerts.
Others are fortunately positioned to gather directional guidance from the largest banking institutions and brokerage desks – often trading against the all-too charitable trading public.

It is no secret that the vast majority of retail forex traders actually lose money and, as a result, there is a breed of signal providers that feeds on this. They gather data from these various organizations, weigh the direction of where the retail trading public is headed, and intentionally provide counter-intuitive signals, accordingly.

What does Pip mean?

The term PIP stands for Percentage in Points and equals one hundredth of one percent.
A move from 100 to 100.01 would represent a one PIP advance, for example.
A single PIP, in other words, is an extremely small change and is usually inconsequential in most cases.
The price of most financial assets, whether bonds, stocks or options, is not quoted in such small increments, and therefore a jump of a single PIP is usually impossible except in the case of currency trading.

What is the value of a Pip?

With a similar contract, the Pip does not have the same value on every currency pairs.

The formula is:
S: Size of the contract
dPIP: pip definition (0.0001, 0.001...)
XXX: the first currency
YYY: the second currency
The value of the Pip for the pair: XXXYYY = S*dPIP*YYYUSD

What does Stoploss mean?

The Stoploss is an automatically executed setting, adjustable for every order. Its value determines the maximum possible loss of a certain trade.

What does Take profit mean?

An order used by currency traders specifying the exact rate or number of pips from the current price point where to close out their current position for a profit.
The rate deemed to be the level where the trader wants to take a profit is sometimes referred to as the "Take profit point".

What does drawdown mean?

The drawdown is essentially the percentage of your account that you have lost.
After a losing streak, your account balance will be depleted by a certain amount.

For example, if you had a $10,000 account and you lost $2,000, the drawdown in your account would be 20%.
The term is commonly used applying to a single trade (i.e. drawdown/trade).

What is leverage?

Leverage is using something small to control something large.
In forex, using leverage gives traders the ability to make large trades with a limited amount of money.
However, never forget that your risk grows accordingly!

For example, in forex, to control a $100,000 position, your broker will set aside $1,000 from your account.
Your leverage, which is expressed in ratios, is now 100:1. You are now controlling $100,000 with $1,000.
The $1,000 deposit is "margin" you had to give in order to use leverage.

What is margin?

Margin is the amount of money needed as a "good faith deposit" to open a position with your broker.
It is used by your broker to maintain your position.
Your broker basically takes your margin deposit and pools them with everyone else's margin deposits, and uses this one "super margin deposit" to be able to place trades within the interbank network.
Margin is usually expressed as a percentage of the full amount of the position.

For example, most forex brokers say they require 2%, 1%, .5% or .25% margin.
Based on the margin required by your broker, you can calculate the maximum leverage you can wield with your trading account.

What are “long” and “short” positions?

A long position in the stock market means that an investor has purchased a stock with the expectation that its price will rise. A long position is sometimes referred to as being "long the market." Investors who are "bullish" about the market will take a long position, expecting higher prices in the future. The vast majority of investors take a long position in the market when they invest and investors who purchase for the long-term almost always take a long position. Investors who subscribe to the theory of "buying low and selling high" will take a long position. The opposite of a long position is a short position. Investors who are "short the market" sell stock (as opposed to buying stock) in the expectation of lower prices in the future.

What is the difference between “intraday” and “overnight” positions?

Intraday positions are all positions opened anytime during the 24 hour period AFTER the close of normal trading hours at 5:00pm EST. overnight positions are positions that are still on at the end of normal trading hours (5:00pm EST), which are automatically rolled to the next trading day.

What do the terms “bid/ask” and “spread” mean?

The price difference between the currency pair's buy and sell rate i.e the broker's commission on each trade. In FOREX's terminology it is usually called "spread".

What does “European Session” mean?

Just when Asian market participants are starting to close shop, their European counterparts are just beginning their day. While there are several financial centers all around Europe, it is London that market participants keep their eyes on. Historically, London has always been at a center of trade, thanks to its strategic location. It is no wonder that it is considered the forex capital of the world with thousands of businessmen making transactions every single minute. About 30% of all Forex transactions happen during the London session.

Here are some neat facts about European session:
- Because the London session crosses with the two other major trading sessions--and with London being such a key financial center - a large chunk of Forex transactions take place during this time. This leads to high liquidity and potentially lower transaction costs, i.e. lower pip spreads.

- Due to the large amount of transactions that take place, the London trading session is normally the most volatile session.

- Most trends begin during the London session, and they typically will continue until the beginning of the New York session.

- Volatility tends to die down in the middle of the session, as traders often go off to eat lunch before waiting for the New York trading period to begin.

- Trends can sometimes reverse at the end of the London session, as European traders may decide to lock in profits.

Why is this signal service better than a Forex robot?

The FOREX signal service we provide has a lot of advantages contrary to FOREX robots
(or Expert Advisors = EAs).
Without aiming for completeness we enlist the most important here:

• real traders capable of reacting accordingly to any change on the market
• trades diversified between several traders thus reducing risks as opposed to almost all robots' simple, predefined strategies
• traders are trading on their own real account and that is exactly what you receive, we do not only show backtests like those 99$ robots' sites do!
